Christian Education at First UMC offers many opportunities for exploring faith further. From Sunday School to Advent Studies, Youth Group and Special Events, we have something to fit your needs and explore your faith. Megan Armstrong is our Director of Christian Education and she works with an unbelievable group of volunteers who have committed themselves to the Christian formation of the members of First UMC.
We offer Sunday School for children ages 3 and up. Our classes are each taught by two adults from the congregation and we use a variety of curriculum options to keep the kids interested and to continue to see growth in the children’s knowledge about our church and their faith.
Sunday School begins at 10:20am with a Children’s Church Gathering Time. We talk about last weeks lesson, or the over arching theme for the current curriculum, we sing songs, celebrate birthdays, take offering and talk about exciting upcoming opportunities.
We have nursery care available every Sunday morning and for most events or activities on request. Even as young children and babies connections can be made to church and faith. Our children are cared for with a nurturing hand and a loving environment. Our nursery attendants are CPR and First Aid certified.
Adult Sunday School
We currently have one active adult Sunday School class that meets at 10:30am each week. This class is lead by Rev. Jenny Arfmann. The curriculum varies throughout the year touching on both Bible study and spiritual growth. This class often requires the purchase of a book, but the books are available at the church, please let the church office know if you need the current book.
Please See the Youth Page for More Information
There are adult education opportunities offered throughout the year outside of the Sunday School class. These are often shorter and more specifically based on a season or event. We offer an Advent and a Lenten Study each year, along with a Book Club and other special opportunities.
